EDIT: 11.09.08
Dear Santa,
I'm honored to participate in this exchange with so many wonderful artists. Here's my request - my original character, Rivek.
As a request - please keep specific-holiday imagery out of it (ie - Santa hats, nativity, crosses, menorahs). It would just be out of place. On the other hand, winter-themed stuff (like polar bears, snow, pine trees) are awesome. Also, you're welcome to draw him with or without wings and/or alter his costume. Although he is 1200s Europe, you are welcome to put him in another time period (egypt, steampunk, modern, japan, to make a few). However, please do NOT forget the cross-scar on his face. ;_; <3
If you want to know a little about him - Rivek is a swordsman-archer on a contract with the government who doesn't exist on paper because of religious reasons. He has mixed feelings about his position - he's in love with his boss, but he hates being metaphorically leashed. Nevertheless, without the law, he would still be just as dedicated to her. As a result, although he stays distant in public, he's not afraid to speak his mind when they are in private. When you get to know him, you realize, behind the logical exterior, is a sarcastic sense of humor which is a further mask for his intense loyalty.
His blood is so dark red it's almost black because he's a mage. His powers, though are limited. All he can really do is talk to birds and turn into a peregrine falcon, which enhances his human speed and eyesight.

Even though I'm just requesting Rivek, if you're interested in checking out the other characters from the storyline, there is his sister, Mirab; his lover, Will; and his best friend, Bohren.

Sincerely and thank you,
Grace
EDIT: 11/04/08 I am impressed with the unity and discussion that has occurred with this election. The city is rioting for the second time in a week (first time would be the Phillies - WOOOO!).. and I have homework, so I'm procrastinating by writing this. Damn you, ~Tycho7 - take me some pictures of Broad Street. Let me say, amongst all the political journals out there - I do not think Obama is a savior. There are plenty of issues I felt he did not have a clear solution to. However, what I think has happened is that America is now more self-aware - and that's always what I thought it needed. He is a representative figurehead, and inspiration, for change that America itself must drive.
Oops. So, my subscription ran out and my computer is running out of hard-drive space.
Sorry, but I haven't been around. I'm really trying to get better and focus on my own style, so I've been spending a lot more time with my guy-friends who live down the hall. Lots of my time is spent on homework, too. I've been drawing when inspiration hits, but it's mostly sketches like the one I've just posted. I've hit that point where looking at good work inspires me rather than makes me jealous. It's liberating, finally doing original work and drawing whatever hits me at the moment. I guess the less time I spend online, the more productive I am! Haha. I'll be attempting to take some sweet artistic independent studies the rest of my time here at college, too.
You can view most of the work I've been doing at my sketchblog: [link] . Anyone want to trade links?
I've also been really interested in drawing challenges and competitions if anyone can link me to some.
Just an FYI, if you want me to join an exchange like a Secret Santa, you need to send me a note to invite me specifically because much as I love art exchanges, I don't check DA that often nowadays to go look for them.
And to my close DA friends who live in the area - and those passing through the area (specifically you, Han-hunni, I haven't seen you in ages!) - if you want to hang out, I recommend you give me an actual phone call. There's a lot to do where I am (especially with food), and I love cafe artjams.

Devious Comments
I briefly played with one at walmart, I think the processor is kinda blehhh, I'd prefer if it had a dual core.

Though it only ships with 1GB ram, have to void the warranty to stick a second stick in there. Motherboard does have the slot for it, though.
Most mini-notebook reviews, or at least the ones I saw, put the Wind ahead of the rest. Aspire was second though IIRC.
But man, mini-notebooks are sweet. Except the original Eee-PC, that thing was dumb with its tiny SSD.
I'm basically looking for a computer that can handle coding on the go.

The price depends on HD and battery size. NewEgg lists the 120GB HD with 3-cell battery at $449, and the 160GB HD with 6-cell battery at $499.
The bigger battery is definitely worth the extra $50 in my opinion, and you might have a hard time finding one that ships with the 3-cell right now anyway.
Some reviews, and careful inspection of product pictures, will show that the 6-cell battery is too large to align flush with the bottom of the notebook, and juts out a little bit.
However, speaking as someone who has the 6 cell and was reeeally worried about this, it's no big deal. It barely sticks out at all, and has its own little rubber feet.
The battery life with the 6-cell is sweet though, 5+ hours. And the default keyboard shortcuts with the FN key are really nice.
F3 to disable the trackpad (which, because the machine is so tiny, is vital whenever you're doing a lot of typing, else your thumb will brush against it and wreck havoc on where your cursor is), F3 and 4 to raise and lower screen brightness, F7, 8, and 9 are volume controls (lower, raise, mute).
One thing to keep in mind though, if you do get the Wind, is that you *need* to update the wireless drivers before you use it. Need need need.
Lol updating stuff isn't a huge problem for me.... *loves playing with her machines*

I'd falsely remembered a review comparing the Aspire to the Wind, but it was actually Wind vs EeePC 1000H. [link]
